Inspired by a little celebration coming up soon! If you look close you might be able to tell what that celebration might be! hehehe! Seems that the cat in the hat has captured by heart for the moment! hehehe!
Hopefully I'll be able to get back to this later today, but in the meantime hope you enjoy this little sneak peek! Oh, and I'm going to try adding a few collage elements to this one...excited to see how that comes together.  Until later...

A Stumble Upon . . . The Web Of Whimsy! Whimsical Wk #15

On this ☂rainy ☁, ☼ sunny ☼, ☂rainy☁ , ☼ sunny☼ ,☂ rainy-sunny ☼ Saturday I was pleased to stumble upon a blog called "Web of Whimsy" and a fun linky that's called Whimsical Week.  So what's the "dealio" with the
"linkio"?  It's a place to share your "whimsical" art that you created during the past week...it's put to a vote on Tally Tuesday...hehehe) to see who is bestowed the title of "Wizard of Whimsy" for each week of submissions.  I thought how absolutely, definitely, amazingly, perfectly whimsical and fun.  So I gathered all of my Pop Art Mini works from the past week and placed them here as my entry into this weeks...Whimsical Week #15...and am now crossing my fingers, toes and eyes to become a "Wizard of Whimsy".

hmmm....looking back it seems I had a thing for hats!
Layers of stacked hats, The Cat in the Hat and a Pirate Hat...now how do you like that!

Oh, and there's one more thing I have to do to be able to enter...answer this question
Would I rather be a slide or a swing!
My answer...

"A SWING"
Back and forth flying high into the sky
That is definitely my reason why
Although a slide is very nice too
I can't stand still...that just won't do!

I do believe I've been inspired for a next Pop Art Mini...hehehe

Voting starts in 2 days...check back for the Tally Tuesday Link!

Yo!Ho!Ho! A Pirate's Life For Me...A Picture, A Poem & A Pop Art Mini

I do alot of traveling for my job and I do enjoy an adventure! I think that's why when I came across a picture (above) of my Great-Niece, Londyn (who is an absolute doll) it immediately caught my "eye-matey" and suddenly became the inspiration for a Pop Art Mini
"A Pirate's Life For Me" by Joni Nickrent  copyright 2011

Which in turn sparked a Poem!
I wanna be a pirate and fly from sea to sea
Flying, traveling, discovering, oh that's the life for me
A swashbuckling, silly pirate with a great looking hat
A scarf, vest and patch, yes I'd really like that
Now I wouldn't be a bad guy, no that just wouldn't do
But I’ll bring back lots of treasures just to share with you
A pirate with a big heart one that's filled with gold
Sharing, caring…awesome treasures that just can’t be sold
I'll travel with my camera and cell phone by my side (hehehe)
And laugh, sing and dance the kind of fun you just can’t hide
So come along and join me as I fly from sea to sea
Yes, a silly traveling pirate, oh that’s the life for me!
Beginning to end and the adventure along the way...

Yo!Ho!Ho! A Pirate's Life For Me...fun and fancy free!

My Flea Market Treasure...A Vintage Cat In The Hat...And I Really ♥ That!

Vintage Cat In the Hat by Joni Nickrent copyright 2011
A Pop Art Mini inspired by my Cat In The Hat Treasure!

I hadn't been to the Long Beach Flea Market in quite a few weeks, but today I decided was the day that I would go (along with my Daughter, Emily) and I just knew that there was a treasure or two with my name on it! And guess what? I was right! Yep, not 15 minutes after we arrived I found one timely treasure (that I'll share in another post because I have an awesomely fun project planned for it) and in the last aisle we found treasure #2 . . . a 1960's Vintage plush Cat in the Hat character!

WOW! My eyes took a double take as I walked quickly over to the prize...lifted it gently from it's current place of honor and began the inspection.  Yes, he was far from perfect, but that just made him even more endearing to me...a patch on his face that had been lovingly stitched...a replaced stripe on his signature hat,

but with original tag still intact this Cat In The Hat was definitely all that!
After a brief negotiation on the price and with the stipulation that I could have him for my offer if I agreed to give him a good home.
I enthusiastically answered...yes, yes, I can do that...why, I just love the Cat in the Hat. I do, I do...it's really true and the guy in the booth said then take him home with you!
And as I walked away, Cat in the Hat in hand...I thought to myself, I'm the luckiest treasure hunter in the land!

Layers of Hats...How Silly is That? Illustration Friday - Layer!

Hat's Off by Joni Nickrent copyright 2011

How silly is that
To layer all those hats
Silly is the right word...of course it's just absurd!
Hats on such a tiny head
Purple, yellow and even red
That's just silly I say...yes, silly in every way!
You'd think it'd cause a stir
A Bowler, a top hat, one with fur
It really is quite silly...really, yes, really!
But if you are like me
That's the stuff you like to see
Silly, Really Silly...layers of hats from plain to frilly!
Now grab a hat or two
Layer hats is what we do
Cause being silly can be fun...not just for me, but for everyone!

Now there's quite a few layers in this stack of hats!

The layers of hats growing one by one!

It can be quite fun when you see how it's done.

Look who's at the bottom of the layers of stacked hats!

Layers of Hats...the tip-top of the stack!

A little video fun...watch the many "layers" of Hats from start to finish!

Todays Pop Art Mini was brought to you with inspiration from Illustration Friday word of the week.
