W.I.P. A Bear A Bunny and A Bulldog...My What BIG Eyes They Have!

This is my doodle for today!

My W.I.P. (work in progress) Funny new characters with BIG eyes and BIG personalities.
A Bear A Bunny and A Bulldog!
I'm liking the way they're looking so far.  The eyes are too fun!
I'm not sure if it will remain a pencil sketch.  I doubt it.  Very rarely am I able to just let it go at this point...I can't bear to not add lots of color or at the very least some black ink and a  few pops of color.  And maybe, just maybe another character just might make an appearance.

What do you think?

D.I.Y. Valentine's Day Love Note Candles That Hold The Key To Your Heart!

Here's a D.I.Y. Valentine's Day project that you can just about make for a song and may definitely hold the key to your heart! Inspired by this fun little find at Michael's . . .

. . . I thought, hey, that's a perfect idea for a D.I.Y. Valentine's Candle Project . . . and so I picked up a few things that I thought would work for the project at Michael's . . . glittery letters and ribbon.  Then headed over to the Dollar Tree for a few tall glass alter votive candles (replacing the bottles from the original inspiration) and some glitter glue.  I already had most of the other things that I ended up using for this project. (streamers, Elmer's glue, keys...which I actually found laying in the "junk drawer", sheet music (if you don't have this you can download for FREE HERE.), scissors and construction paper.

Glitter letters (store bought or make your own), sheet music, ribbon, construction paper.

Glitter glue, cutter, scissors, crepe paper streamers, glue.

Tall jar candles (alter votives), Random keys...new, old or in between.

And Now the D.I.Y. fun begins!

Cut the sheet music into equal strips for each candle you are creating a letter for.  I used a 2-1/2" x 4" size for each strip for the LOVE Candles.

After the strips are cut add glue to the back of each and apply to the front and center of each glass votive.

Slide it back and forth and up and down a little bit so that the glue adheres to the glass and the paper.  Wipe off excess glue with paper towel.

Wa-laa . . . 1-2-3-4 ready for the next step

Apply a thin layer of glitter glue around the entire border of the sheet music strips.  You can use any color you would like and if you want a double layer go for it! hehehe!

Glitter glue on the last of the 4

Glittery borders all done . . . next

Cut 1-1/2" wide white construction paper hearts

Take a 14"-16" strip of red crepe streamers, fold in half and adhere to the back of each of the white construction paper hearts...scrunching and overlapping the crepe paper as you go! Cut off the excess at the end.

and cut off any extra around the edges . . . mine were approx. 1/4" border once cut down.

After the crepe paper streamer borders were trimmed I added another border layer of red glitter glue around each of the white construction paper hearts.
Next apply the glitter letters with glue to the center of each white construction paper heart.

Glue each of the heart letter embellishments to the front and center of the sheet music blocks on the front of the glass votives.
Once that all four have the heart letters glued on and everything is dry (very important or you'll end up with a smeared mess) Cut 2 - 24" Ribbon strips (one pink, one red . . . or whatever colors you might prefer) and tie around the top of the jar.

Take your key and run the ribbon through the opening in the top then tie in a knot to hold in place.

After all of the keys are in place tie off each ribbon set into a bow.  Trim ends if you want a shorter look.  I ended up trimming about 1/4" off each side.
After all of your bows are tied off you've got yourself one sweet and lovely set of Valentine's Day Votive Candles.

Perfect for sharing with a friend, your sweetheart or setting just the right ambiance for Valentine's Day Fun!

Wishing you a Valentine's Day filled with Love Notes from that special someone that holds the key to your heart!

Just Between You and Me...Random Ramblings To Kick Off The New Year!

One of my favorite blogs is The Idea Room. I have it bookmarked and try and cruise by a few times a week. Today when I visited Amy's blog there was a post of shared random facts about herself and a linky that asked us to post random facts about ourselves. I thought it sounded like fun and would be a great little blog to kick off the new year. So here's 12 things about me that you might not have known. And in return I'd love to hear 12 things (or more if you would like) about YOU! Hope you'll join in the random fun!

1. I am the oldest of 3 girls and we all have names that end with the letter i . . . Joni, Shari, Ami

(Left to right...Shari, Joni (me...hehehe), and Ami, the youngest)
2. I have one daughter that is a New Year's baby born on 1/1/88 and was the first baby of the year in Normal, Illinois...yep, NORMAL!

3. I have a degree in Art Education and taught grades 7-12 after graduating from Illinois State University in uh, we won't go into details on how long ago that was. I was also the Yearbook Advisor and Girl's Basketball Coach...both extra-curricular activities that I LOVED!
4. I have two adorable little doggies named Smokey (a Pekingese - the Old Professor) and Bandit (a Pomeranian-mischievous and always smiling)...yeah, I know and yes, that's why we did!

5. I love, love, love to dance...did I say that I love to Dance? yes? ok, good because I really wanted to make sure that was on the list!
6. I organized and played point guard for our first place campus wide intramural basketball team at Illinois State University...that was a long time ago, but it still makes me smile to remember that . . . I'm 5' 1" tall on a good day! LOL
7. I used to be so afraid of flying that I would not get out of my seat or unfold my hands during the entire flight for fear that something might happen to the plane. Now, I LOVE to fly! How'd that happen?
8. I love to laugh, smile, have fun and be silly. I secretly (or not so secretly now) wanted to be a comedian! LOL...hahaha...yeah, right...no really, I did...LOL
9. I was born and raised in a small town in Illinois called Kewanee...it's the Hog Capital of The World...pass me a pork chop please!
10. I love to read...not the great novels of our times, but eeekkk... romance novels! Yeah, the kind with the tall, dark and handsome hunks on the covers well, before they're downloaded to my Kindle. When I'm on a roll I can read 2 a day! Hopelessly romantic? No, just mindless and stress-free fun!
11. I love to draw, paint, create, craft...it's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I couldn't imagine being me without it!  I started my Pop Art Minis business a little over a year ago where I sell my designs as prints, on t-shirts, mousepads and other fun stuff and have been selling candles and other scented goodies on Ebay since 2003.  I have also had several other businesses through the years and like to think of myself as a hopeful entrepreneur always looking for a way to be able to create and make a living doing it!
12. I have my own space in our house that my husband and daughter lovingly call my NEST...it's where I go to create, dream and rejuvenate! Oh, how I love my nest...it's warm, comfy and colorful!

Ok, enough about me...really, enough! Now it's YOUR turn...what are 12 random facts about YOU?
