I'm Done! I'm Done! "Bruno Bear And The Moon" . . . Dreamy!

I have an obsession with the moon and when I heard the song by Bruno Mars called "Talking to The Moon" well, I fell head over heels!  It's about this guy who's in love and every night he sits and talks to the moon about that special person that he's in love with...hoping that she might be listening on the other side of the moon...sigh...dreamy and such a great love story kind of thing! I'm gonna vote that she is listening.
Anyway, inspired by Bruno's song I had to create my version of "talking to the moon", in Pop Art Mini form of course!
So here's "Bruno Bear and The Moon" hanging out, talking and ready to share his heart with a love, hopefully on the other side of the moon!

Want a peek at the start to finish progression . . . here you go!

The mini-mini sketch...post it notes do come in handy! hehehe

Sketch on the 12"x12" Paper Canvas...waiting for pops of color!

The color and outlining has begun.

Mooning, oops, I mean moving right along...more color!

Every shade of blue...add a little yellow...how about some orange and green too...sure why not!

Color is complete and it's time to start the blending

Blending stick going in to create some soft detail.

The eyes have it . . . outlining has begun

A few more bold black outlines and we're just about over the moon!

Yep, that will do it...signing off!

I'm Done! I'm Done! "Bruno Bear And The Moon"

Hope Your Day Is Filled With Dreams, Love and A Little Talking To The Moon!

Once In A Blue Moon...the Winter Solstice and a Total Lunar Eclipse On The Same Day!

Pop Art Mini - "Linked"

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 will go down in the history books as a day that a rare transition will take place with the arrival of the Winter Solstice and a Total Lunar Eclipse occurring on the same day!  This rarity has only been seen maybe one time in the past 2000 years! How crazy amazing it that! And although we will probably not be able to see this transition here in Southern California due to the torrential downpour of rain it will most definitely occur as the celestial calendar is nearly 100% on schedule and if not...well, let's not go there!
The last time the two celestial events occurred within the same calendar day was in 1638!   Although it does not appear to have any cosmic significance you can't help but wonder what fantastical affect this rare occurance may have on the cosmic forces that be! And it will not happen again until 2094.

Pop Art Mini - "Starring Mr. Moony"

The absolute midpoint of the eclipse will be at 3:17 est Tuesday morning according to scientific research.  The moon then continues moving through the Earth's shadow, emerging completely shortly after 5 a.m. The winter solstice, which occurs shortly afterward, is the time when the sun reaches its lowest point in the northern sky. That is the moment that many people consider to be the start of the winter season...although I do believe winter-like weather may have decided to start a little earlier this year...maybe in an attempt to get us in the Christmas spirit a bit earlier than usual.  hehehe!

Wishing you an eclipsical celestial solstice!

HIVE CREATIVE CHALLENGE - "Tick Tock Autumn Clock"

Autumn is my favorite time of year (as I think it is for alot of us) and when Melissa, The Queen Bee from The Hive posted about the First official Creative Challenge
THEME: Autumn . . . I was IN!
The piece that I created for the challenge is called  "Tick Tock Autumn Clock"!   Here's Why? For me Autumn seems to come and go so quickly and as much as we try and hold onto the bright, beautiful colors, the crisp, cool weather, the excitement of Halloween well it never seems to stay around long enough.
(Plus, my birthday falls right before Halloween...hehehe)
Mr. Tick Tock Autumn Clock, the moon-like pocket watch is the center of attention in my oil pastel drawing while visions of Autumn swirl above his head . . . Jack-o-lanterns, Black Cats, Button Leaves, Owls in Trees...tickets to the big show . . . Halloween!  I've added a few altered elements with some stamped words, newspaper embellishments and even a clear plastic lense piece placed over Tick Tock Clock's monocle.  It was a perfect challenge and one that I totally enjoyed!

Here's a  little poem that also goes along with my Challenge Entry

Tick Tock Autumn Clock it's time to rock
Halloween is drawing near
Black cats on the prowl and purr with a growl
The bewitching hour is here
Button leaves and Hallowed Eves
Harvest moon hanging low in the sky
Crisp Autumn nights and Jack-o-lantern candle lights
How quickly time passes by
Dance, Dream Be inspired take all that’s desired
It's gonna be an "owl-some" show.
There’s so many reasons, that we love this season
Autumn please stay, don’t go!

Wishing you an Awesome Autumn and a Happy Harvest!

Have You Ever Been "Moonstruck...Underneath A Paper Moon"

Always happy to have a little extra time for creating and with this being the Labor Day holiday I was able to squeeze in another new Pop Art Minis design called "Moonstruck, Underneath A Paper Moon".  The moon is always a powerful inspiration in my creations and my imagination seems to run wild with all the fun ways and creative expressions the Man in the moon might actually make (wink! wink!)  Add a funny little black cat prancing mischievously along a white picket fence, a few of swirls and stars . . . wha-la . . . this little guy is definitely Moonstruck . . . under of course, a paper moon!
I'll be uploading the new design to my Zazzle Store so come check it out when you get a chance!
Here's a little video of the process . . . just in case it doesn't show up in the post.
Enjoy and I hope that you might become Moonstruck Under A Paper Moon too . . . it's really a great place to bee! (shout out to The Hive!)

It's "Panda-Moonium" - Gotta Love A Full Moon...Awesome!

Tonight when I was driving home from work I glanced up to see the most amazing full moon.  When I first noticed it, it was still low in the sky and looked like it was hanging over the mountains...very cool.  I wish I could have gotten that shot, but it would have been a little hard to stop on the Freeway ramp when there were about 25 cars trailing behind me! LOL.  Anyway, when I finally got home the moon had made it's climb to a higher position in the sky, but it was still pretty darn AWESOME!
"Over the Moon" with inspiration  I "buzzed" into the house and upstairs to my drawing table and proceeded to work on what I ended up calling "Panda-Moonium"  Why the Panda?  We'll that's what stage of my creative moon I'm in right now so I thought it just made sense...and a little telling of my current state...hehehe!  I also created a photo progression of the process . . . sometimes fun to see the start, middle and finished design.  I hope you enjoy the end result as much as I enjoyed creating it!
Watch for the design soon in my Pop Art Minis Zazzle Store!

Just in case the blogger video link doesn't work you can view the youtube version here!

Always Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star

Illustration Friday - Pop Art Minis "Linked" Entry

This week through all of my twittering, google searching and site gazing I came across a site called Illustration Friday! Besides lots of cool art in lots of different mediums they have a special event called "Illustration Friday" . . . makes sense :) Each week a different theme/subject is selected and artists can submit works that pertain to the theme. Too fun!

This weeks theme is "Linked". . . my entry "Linked - Sunshine & ZZZ's". If you get a chance stop by illustrationfriday.com to view and add a comment (please & thank you) to my entry.
Wishing you sunshine and zzz's (a goodnights sleep does wonders for the body!)
